With baby boy’s due date slowly sneaking up on me, I’ve been thinking about some of the gear I’d like to buy before his arrival. It’s a pretty short list, but with a January 4th due date I’m definitely thinking a car seat cover will be so helpful. Not only do I love them because they keep baby warm, but they also protect them from germs and, of course, overly friendly strangers.
Here are a eight of my favorite infant car seat covers on the market, from lightweight muslin options to heavier fleece ones. No matter what climate you live in, we’ve got your baby covered.
1 | Skip Hop Stroll & Go Car Seat Cover (Retail: $34.99)
A new release from Skip Hop! It features an ultra-plush fleece fabric to keep baby cozy toasty warm and elastic edges that secure it to any infant car seat. The collar can be opened or closed, and when open it can be secured by snapping it to the outer layer. It has a zip off front flap so you don’t have to remove the full cover to access baby. (If you’ll be attaching your infant car seat to a stroller, there’s a matching hand muff you might like too!)
This one doubles as a car seat canopy and a tummy time mat for baby! It’s reversible with one printed cotton side and one soft minky side. There are two loops on each side that will be used to attach the canopy to the car seat when on the outside or can be used as toy loops to entertain baby when on the inside (or when using as a tummy time mat).
3 | Bebe au Lait Muslin Car Seat Cover ($35)
A breathable, lightweight muslin cover that is ideal for warmer weather to protect baby from the breeze or sun. The front zip closure can be partially opened or fully opened to easily access baby. Folds into pocket for storage.
4 | 7AM Enfant Car Seat Cocoon ($59)
A luxurious car seat cocoon made from polyester. Features a central zipper to allow for easy access to baby and side shoulder zippers for uncovering baby’s head. Comes in a variety of on-trend fashions.
5 | Covered Goods Multi-Use Cover ($34.99)
I love items that have multiple uses, and that’s exactly what I love about the Covered Goods cover! Use as a nursing cover, shopping cart cover, car seat cover, or even a scarf. It’s easy to put on and take off the car seat without disturbing baby. The opening in the top can be narrow or wide depending on how you position on car seat, and is perfect for keeping an eye on baby. The lightweight material will keep baby protected from the elements but not overheat them.
6 | JJ Cole Car Seat Cover ($29.95)
This is probably the most popular winter car seat cover on the market! It’s has soft, cozy fleece on the inside and weather-resistant nylon on the outside. The zippered flap provides a custom fit to grow with your baby. (They’re also releasing a down version this fall that packs down into a storage bag you can pack in your diaper bag.)
7 | Balboa Baby Car Seat Canopy ($29.99)
This highly-rated car seat canopy features two complimentary fabrics for two looks in one. It doubles as a canopy as well as a play mat or blanket. Attaches to the car seat with velcro straps.
8 | Aden + Anais Car Seat Canopy ($29.99)
A lightweight, breathable canopy in classic Aden + Anais cotton muslin for warmer weather. Easily attaches the the car seat with snap tabs. (There is also a $19.99 version from the Aden by Aden + Anais line.)
And one more option that I love is these stroller pegs that you can use to turn one of your current favorite swaddle blankets into a car seat cover or stroller cover!
